The path was cleared (circa 1890) and many have followed up to this present time (2010). It has been noted that the history of the church names have changed starting with Cashaways, Ferry Road Brush Arbor, Manning Grove and later St. Matthew ‘Chapel’ which some folks called Chapel.  Later still St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church, and in the year of 1990 it was again renamed New St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church.
